There are many factors that have to be taken into consideration when choosing a private school. We all want the best education for our children, but the question is what factors will contribute towards this.
Location is a key factor when discussing the possibility of private schools in Cambodia. Obviously, there are more public schools than there are private schools so in some cases variety may not be an option. It would be wise to find a private school in Phnom Penh in a close proximity to your house either by travelling by car or having the opportunity to use public transport. Living far away could prove a problem and in the long run attendance could be a problem.
Another factor to consider is whether to choose a single sex school or both. This could be extremely important for some families as they may want their children to only mix with children of the same sex.
Another factor to research beforehand is the facilities available at the school. All schools should be equipped with resources to ensure a quality education. This will range from books and textbooks to computers and media equipment. Some schools may have a focus on sport so will be equipped with sports facilities. Every school will have a gym but some may have extras such as a swimming pool or climbing walls.
Most private schools will follow the curriculum of public schools but in the majority of cases there will be a few differences whether it is an extra language or a different topic taught. It would be worth researching this and checking if the subjects are interesting and seeing if your children can learn from it. It is also to beneficial to check the subjects available for exams tested around the country. These exams will go on CVs and will contribute towards continuation of study or working.
These factors can be researched on the internet or you can ring up the school and request for an information pack which will inform you of all things related to the school of choice.
Background research is key to finding the perfect school for our children.
