The Essence of Easter activities for kids
The day known as Easter is very meaningful to adult Christians. This is redemption of mankind by Christ. This is the beginning of new life. But for kids, this is not the essence of the Easter activities for kids. To these fun-loving young ones, Easter Sunday is a day of fun, a day to hunt for free sweets or chocolates.
Easter Sunday is a part of the classroom lessons. The kids are made aware of the value of the Risen Christ. But in the young minds, this lesson may not be imprinted. The little brains will only remember the Easter activities for kids which mainly are centered on egg hunting and group games.
Indoor Easter Activities for Kids
The fun of Easter activities for kids can be done indoors and outdoors. There are lots of undertakings relevant to the occasion that can be done indoors. The center of indoor Easter activities for kids is crafting. With this, the kids can engage in making Easter wreaths, greeting cards, baskets, nests, bunnies and egg decorating.
Other wholesome indoor Easter activities of kids are board games. You can make your Easter board games patterned after the popular “Snakes and Ladders” board game.
Outdoor Easter Activities for Kids
The most popular outdoor Easter activities for kids are egg hunting expeditions. These can be done in the neighborhood, in the park, in school grounds or in club houses of villages and communities. Wherever these activities are undertaken, egg hunting remains to be a favorite Easter activity for kids. The egg hunt can be a treasure hunt such that you can incorporate clues that will lead to the progressive discovery of the hidden treasure. The last clue may lead to a nest filled with egg-shaped chocolates.
Although the Easter activities for kids are mostly about egg hunting, there are other outdoor activities that are useful to undertake. Relay is one of these so why not instigate a spoon and egg relay or you can have the “bring me” parlor game where the kids will be asked to bring a pink or a blue or other colors of eggs. Easter Egg Games
Springtime brings me a lot of positive moods. With the days getting longer and brighter and the trees starting to blossom I know that Easter is just round the corner. Who else, if not kids, are looking forward the most to the spring festival. Chocolate eggs will always bring a smile on their faces, but what about doing some fun activities as well? At friends and family gatherings games is a good option to keep everybody amused. These would be the most popular Easter games we play in our house.
Put the Tail on the Easter Bunny
You will need:
Printable Easter Bunny picture, cotton wool, sticky tape or blue tac and a blindfold.
How to play:
Let the child have a look at the picture, put a blindfold on the eyes, spin twice and let him/her stick a bunny tail (cotton wool). You can mark the spot with child’s name and let the other child to have his turn. The one, who attached the tail closest to the correct spot, wins the task.
Easter Egg and Spoon Race
You will need:
Hard-boiled egg, some spoons, basket or the box.
How to play:
You can divide children into groups or it can be an individual task. Line the children at the start line. The task is to place the egg on the spoon and carry the distance without dropping the egg and place it in the basket. There might be some obstacles which you need to go round or instead of walking kids can bounce on one leg to complicate the task. The team or individual who broke the least eggs win, if there is a draw, then the quickest wins.
Walk the Easter Egg
You will need:
Hard-boiled egg and spoons.
How to play:
Line the children or make a circle. The child who is at the end of the line starts a game or just pick any child to start. Then place an egg on a spoon and the child has to pass the spoon to the person next to him without dropping the egg. The one that drops the egg leaves the line or the circle.
Easter Bunny Says
How to play:
That’s an Easter version of the well-known game “Simon Says”. Just instead of “Simon says” you say “Easter Bunny says” and you add the action phrase what you want the children to do. Example: “Easter Bunny says: clap your hands”, “Easter Bunny says: stamp your feet”. If you don’t say the phrase: “Easter Bunny says”, then nobody supposed to do the action. Example: “turn around” or “touch you nose”. If someone does the action has to leave the game. The child who stays the last one wins the game.
Easter Egg Rolling
You will need:
Hard-boiled egg (as many as there are players), big spoons
How to play:
Mark the start and the finish. All children roll the eggs with a help of the spoon. The eggs cannot be touched with hands. The winner is the one that cross the finish line first. You can complicate it by adding some obstacles with a player has to go around.
Easter Egg Rolling Battle
You will need:
Sheet of cardboard paper, hard-boiled eggs, few books, small stickers
How to play:
I have learned this game while being on holidays and since then we play it each Easter. Divide the eggs between the players. The eggs need to be decorated with stickers to make them all different looking. Stack few books and prop one end of cardboard sheet to produce a downward incline. The first player let one of his eggs down the slope. When the egg stops the next contestant rolls his egg aiming to reach the other’s egg and tap it. If the egg hits the other egg, the player takes both eggs. If not, just leave both eggs lying on the ground and another player aims for any of these eggs. If your egg is lying intact after everybody took his or her turn you take your egg from the ground and roll again. If other players win all your eggs you leave the game. The winner is the one who won the most eggs.
Organize an Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter egg hunt is a fun activity for kids of all ages! You can have a hunt among your own kids, or even better, invite their friends around to join in. It’s a very sociable event, and if it’s well organized, everyone will go home happy!
What is an Easter Egg Hunt?
An Easter egg hunt is a game where eggs and other prizes are hidden, and the children have to find them. The details are flexible, so it’s a good idea to adapt the rules to whoever will be participating. Be mindful of age differences, and over-competitive participants!
Indoors or outdoors?
If possible, organize the Easter egg hunt for outdoors. As well as giving the kids some fresh air and plenty of exercise, there are usually plenty more hiding places too! Just be sure to have an indoor hunt organized as a backup, in case the weather isn’t suitable on the day.
What you need?
Stock up with plenty of eggs. Traditionally, hard-boiled eggs are used, but nowadays, chocolate eggs are appreciated more! Another more practical option is plastic eggs, and these are available filled with candy, or even small toys. Whether you use one type of egg, or a variety of different ones, make sure there are plenty for everyone.
Next, you’ll need something for the kids to hold any eggs they find. If you’re stuck, just give each child a bag, but a nicer and more traditional option is to use baskets. These don’t have to be expensive: there are colored bamboo baskets available at a very low cost. Once again, allow enough for each child.
Finally, don’t be afraid to include a few ’special prizes’. These may be especially well hidden, or simply given to the winners. It’s also a good idea to have some candy treats on hand, just to make sure nobody feels left out!
The Rules
Actually, there are no hard-and-fast rules, so you’re free to adapt the hunt as you see fit. However, you should think about the rules for your particular hunt, and make sure all the kids are aware of them beforehand. In the end, you want everyone to enjoy themselves, so here are a few tips:
- Create treasure maps for everyone, adapted to their age. This way, younger children won’t be competing directly with older kids. You can make actual maps, or even just provide clues.
- Limit the number of eggs anyone can collect. You can enforce this by saying the first person to return with that many eggs wins a special prize!
- Make teams, perhaps pairing younger and older children together.
- For very young kids, it’s great to allow an adult to go with them (provided they’re not too competitive!)
- Tell each participant they can only collect eggs of a particular color. This gives everyone a fair chance!
- Safety first! Make sure the hunting grounds are enclosed, or that you can see where all the kids are. Also tell them the area where the eggs are hidden so they’re not tempted to wander further!
Enjoy!
Easter egg hunts can be great fun for all the family, and if everyone goes home with a full Easter basket, there’s sure to plenty of smiles all round!
