Baby Cradle Cap
A baby’s scalp or sometimes the eyebrows might have thick rash that is yellowish and crusty. This is a Cradle cap. Its main victims are newborns, toddlers and sometimes elementary school goers. Though not dangerous, Cradle cap does not look pleasant.
Although cradle cap does no harm, it is often a tremendous concern to parents, who do not like the yellow or brown scales on their otherwise perfect baby.
If the cradle cap does not resolve on its own, there are a couple of home remedies that can be tried.
It often goes away on its own, but for cases that are particularly irritating or that last for a long time, there are several treatment options. The first step is to try a simple dry scalp treatment to loosen the scales from your baby’s head. This is best done by massaging the baby’s scalp gently with your fingertips, shampooing your baby’s hair with a mild baby shampoo, then using a soft brush to loosen the plaque and scales.
Sometimes putting a few drops of mineral oil or petroleum jelly onto the scalp for the massage can be helpful in softening the scales, but be sure to wash the oils out well or it can make the cradle cap worse.
